One of the ethical issues that would have been considered by Whitworth, Loftus, Skinner, Gasson, Barker, Bucks, Thomas (2013) when planning their research is the distinctive vulnerability of the persons with mental illness, intellectual disability, and cognitive impairment as research participants such as distress and discomfort. In the journal, the authors undertook to include the persons suffering from Parkinsons disease (PD) in the research process that involved the influence of the personality traits such as extraversion and neuroticism on the health-related quality of life. As stipulated in Chapter 4.5 of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, the people suffering from mental illness, intellectual disability, and cognitive impairment are entitled to participate in any research process (Nhmrc.gov.au, 2014). However, their inclusion in the research process as participants should be limited to the particular illness, disability, or impairment conditions from which they are suffering (Carlson, 2013). Unfortunately, the authors did not put the medical conditions into consideration while seeking the consent of the participants. The implication of such failure implies that the participants cannot disclose accurate information such as their current medication, the duration of the condition, the medical history, marital status, and age as required by the research team. Consequently, this leads to errors in the study data obtained through administering questionnaires and interviews. In addition, in cases where the condition is incidental or temporary, there is the risk of involving the participants in the research process at the time the condition occurs. The implication of such a scenario is that there is a possibility of variation or loss of consent. (2). The ethical issue of distinctive vulnerability of the participants may have been addressed to the satisfaction of a Human Research Ethics Committee by taking appropriate care to ensure that any burden or risk incurred in the research process is justified through adequate beneficence. Secondly, the researchers should have considered the respect of the participant by seeking their consent before the commencement of the research process. Alternatively, the consent would have been sought from the relatives in a case where the participant does not have the capacity to consent. In addition, in a case where the illness, disability, or impairment is episodic or temporary, the researchers should have attempted to seek the consent of the participants at the instant when the condition cannot interfere with the capacity of the participants to give their consent (Bosek, Savage, 2007). While seeking the consent, the participants should be engaged in a discussion about the variability or loss of t he consent. Further, a party with the capacity of understanding the procedures, risks, and merits should witness the consent of participation (Weisstub Arboleda-Flrez, 1997). Consequently, the witness should be independent of the team undertaking the research and where appropriate, the witness should have an intricate knowledge of the participant, especially concerning his/her illness, disability, or impairment. Contrast the Buddhist ideal of the self with Rousseau's - Essay Example Although the Skandhas are subject to different interpretations, generally, the first heap is the physical form; the second defines human emotions and feelings; the third human perceptions; the fourth includes human predispositions, prejudices and habits; and the fifth, consciousness. Buddha taught that the ideal self is no self. What this means is that the Skandhas are themselves empty considering that they are not qualities that are possessed by the individual. Better stated, according to Buddhism, the ideal self (atman) comes into existence essentially when the sense world and body are subtracted. According to Buddha, when a fire is deprived of fuel leading to its extinction, the stage of Nirvana is reached. Similarly, the ideal man comes into existence when the desires and boundaries of the finite self are removed (Smith 115). The ideal self in this state is incomprehensible, inconceivable, and beyond description. On the other hand, Buddha proposed that the ideal man is one who li ves midway between indulgence and asceticism. Jean-Jacques Rousseau notes that naturally, a human being is like any other animal, motivated to action by two principles: self-preservation and pity (Rousseau 20). The difference between the two is that man has a sense of unrealized perfectibility. Naturally, according to Rousseau, man is essentially happy, has limited needs, has no reason and respects not the concept of evil and good. In other words, Rousseau postulates that the ideal self is one that independent, happy, peaceful and free; devoid of the delusions of perfectibility and harmful reasoning. However, humans have developed and live in civil societies which present a lot of challenges isolating them from their natural selves. Simply stated, when humans are corrupted and enter civil society, they agree to leave their ideal or natural selves. It is under this condition that social inequalities continue to thrive. The choice of words used by the authors strongly underscores the themes of supremacy, selfishness, inequality, and unmistakably, the roles of men and women in society.    In Act I of A Doll's House, there are many clues that hint at the kind of marriage Nora and Torvald have. It seems that Nora is a doll controlled solely by Torvald. She relies on him for everything, from movements to thoughts, much like a puppet that is dependent on its puppet master for all of its actions. The most obvious example of Torvald's physical control over Nora is his teaching her the tarantella. Nora pretends that she needs Torvald to teach her every move in order to relearn the dance. The reader knows this is an act, and it shows her submissiveness to Torvald. After he teaches her the dance, he proclaims "When I saw you turn and sway in the tarantella - my blood was pounding till I couldn't stand it"(Ibsen 1009), showing how he is more interested in Nora physically than emotionally. When Nora responds by saying "Go away, Torvald! Leave me alone. I don't want all this"(Ibsen 1009), Torvald asks "Aren't I your husband?"(Ibsen 1009). After picking, the entire berries are placed on tables or in thin layer on patios in the sunny day to dry. The berries are dried to remove moisture present in it. The berries take ten days to dry completely. The berries need to be rotated regularly to prevent mildew while they dry. After the berries dry, the skin, pulp and parchment are removed from the bean. Then they are sorted and graded.The wet process is another processing method. This method is common among premium coffees. After picking green berries, they are sorted by immersion in water. The bad ones will float while the good ones will sink. The skin of the berry is removed by pressing the berries inside the water. Formation is used if machine is not used. The objective of the fermentation process is to dissolve any remaining fruit flesh and to remove the sticky film surrounding the coffee beans, which are not water soluble. The berries are fermented for twenty to forty-six hours during which the pulp will naturally fall off.The pulp is removed by breaking down the cellulose by fermenting the beans with microbes and then washing them with large amount of water . The berries without pulp are cleaned with water and then dried in a machine or the sun. In most cases they are dried in the sun to twelve to thirteen percent moisture content and bought down to ten percent by machine. Some coffee is dried on large raised tables where the coffee is turned by hand. This method increases cost. But, drying coffee this way has the advantage of allowing air to circulate better around the berries, helping to dry them more.After drying, the thin shell around the berries, called the parchment, is removed from the bean and green coffee bean is produced. The coffee berries have now been processed and are prepared to undergo roasting. Coffee is usually sold in a roasted state. The roasting process is a complex process because the beans should be roasted evenly and at a very high temperature. The actual roasting begins when the temperature inside the beans reaches two hundred degree Celsius. The roasting of the berries depends on the moisture and the density o f the beans. During roasting, caramelization occurs as an intense heat breaks down the pulp.Caramelization is the browning of sugars; a process used extensively in cooking to create nutty flavor and brown color. Sucrose is rapidly lost during the roasting process and may disappear altogether. The aromatic oils and acids weaken, which changes the flavor. Oils start to develop. At two hundred degree Celsius, oil called caffeol is created. This oil is responsible for coffee’s aroma and flavor.
